We are partnering with a leading, highly regulated financial services group (insurance and pensions) to appoint a Senior Commercial Lawyer on a 12 month fixed-term basis to cover a maternity leave.
This is a genuinely interesting, outward‑facing role at the heart of a business that is moving quickly, developing innovative propositions, particularly around AI, data and technology, many of which are piloted in the UK before being rolled out globally.
You will work within a large, collaborative legal, compliance and risk function (c.40 lawyers/paralegals in the immediate team, c.120 in the wider function) in London. The culture is friendly, grown‑up and flexible, with a strong emphasis on trust, collaboration, playbooks and shared knowledge.
In this role, you will:
Act as a senior commercial lawyer within the UK legal team, supporting innovative and sometimes “quirky” new propositions across insurance, pensions and broader financial services. Work closely with product, business and risk stakeholders to: Understand what the business is trying to do and why. Identify the real legal and regulatory issues (often beyond the question initially presented). Help shape solutions that are commercially sensible and compliant. Handle a wide variety of commercial and technology contracts, including those with significant AI and data components (e.g. data use, data sharing, AI‑enabled tools, digital propositions). Operate in a highly regulated context, spotting regulatory and governance pitfalls early and advising on pragmatic mitigations.
** Commercially minded lawyer ** Drafting and negotiating commercial contracts (B2B). ** Comfortable working with complex or novel propositions where the facts aren’t always neatly presented. ** Experience in a regulated environment, ideally Insurance and/or pensions or Financial services ** Possess a strong commercial acumen and “sniff test”
