Can you describe your experience of working through Obelisk?

Working through Obelisk has been an empowering and rewarding journey for me. Obelisk’s platform has enabled me to tap into a vast network of opportunities, exposing me to diverse industry landscapes and an array of legal matters. The company has been incredibly supportive, ensuring my expertise is matched with suitable contracts, and their emphasis on flexible work schedules has been a game changer for my work-life balance.

What makes your expertise unique?

My unique selling point as a legal consultant lies in my diverse experience spanning multiple sectors and my passion for all things law. I bring an intricate understanding of global regulations and a unique perspective that blends business acumen with a sound legal background. This holistic approach, coupled with a keen eye for detail and an unyielding commitment to ethical practices, ensures that I provide well-rounded, actionable advice to my clients.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of flexible working as a lawyer?

Flexible working has allowed me to fully utilise my time and capacity in a manner that serves both my personal life and professional commitments optimally. Being able to adjust my schedule based on my workflow and personal commitments means I can ensure I am fully present and engaged in both arenas of my life. It’s particularly rewarding to be able to meet the demanding and often unpredictable needs of the legal field without compromising my personal life.

What’s the most challenging?

Whilst flexibility is rewarding, it also presents its challenges. One of the biggest is maintaining boundaries between work and personal life. When your home is also your office, it’s easy for lines to blur, and work can potentially intrude on personal time. Managing this boundary effectively is crucial.

What are your proudest professional and personal achievements so far?

Professionally, I am proud of the role I have played in significant compliance cases, ensuring my clients adhere to stringent regulations and operate within legal and ethical frameworks. Personally, I am proud of the balance I have maintained between a demanding career and my personal life. It takes dedication and discipline to make the most of the opportunities that come my way while also making time for my family and personal interests.

How do you find the right work/life balance?

Finding the right work/life balance has been a process of trial and error. It’s about setting boundaries, prioritising tasks, and managing time effectively. A critical aspect is recognising when to switch off from work and allocating time for relaxation and hobbies. Remembering that it’s a marathon, not a sprint, has been crucial to maintaining my wellbeing and productivity in the long term.

What are your words of advice to other legal consultants?

Embrace the diversity of experiences and challenges that come your way, as these will shape you as a legal professional. Keep up to date with regulatory changes, as laws and regulations evolve constantly. Most importantly, strive for a balance between work and personal life that suits you – your wellbeing is key to your performance and success.

How do you start and end your day?

I like to start my day with some mindfulness, be it a morning run or a yoga session, followed by a wholesome breakfast. This routine helps me set the tone for the day and prepare myself mentally for the tasks ahead. I end my day by disconnecting from work, spending quality time with my family, and indulging in a hobby or a good book.
