Legal Advisor (ad hoc)- Charity

Legal advisor to support Charity on ad hoc basis

Our client is a UK-based feminist grant-making charity (annual income roughly £4-4.5m, up to £6m in strong fundraising years) that works with grassroots partners across Kenya, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Nepal and Turkey. The organisation does not currently have a dedicated in-house lawyer and has been relying on ad hoc support from fundraising sponsors and pro bono contacts. They are looking for ad hoc legal suppprt for the charity.

You will:

  • Review and advise on commercial contracts, including grant agreements with grassroots partners (grants typically range from £10k-£60k) and larger institutional/government-funded grants
  • Advise on sponsorship and partner contracts
  • Help standardise the grant agreement templates
  • Review existing governance arrangements across the organisation and flag any risk areas
  • Support the charity as it sets up a new entity in Kenya,
  • Act as first point of contact on all legal matters.
Skill Requirements
  • Experienced commercial contracts lawyer, ideally with charity sector experience
  • Comfortable working with grant-making structures and grant agreements
  • Kenya or wider African jurisdiction experience is an advantage, though not essential
  • Confident advising on data privacy/GDPR matters as a first point of contact
  • Comfortable working with a small in-house team on a flexible, ad hoc basis where monthly usage is variable

Outside IR35, you may contract with us via PSC or umbrella company.
